Ecosystem of Collective Memories: Fermented Recipes book

Categoría,

Collaboration with Alicia Monreal Ortega , Inês Coelho da Silva and neighbours of Montemor o Novo and other spontaneous collaborators.

This book collects fermentation recipes that were made by artists of the project “Seeds -means for a sustainable art practice” : Alicia Monreal and Inês Coelho da Silva, during the residencies of the project, and from neighbours of Montemor and Monfero.

During the exhibition “Sol de pouca dura” in Oficinas do Convento neighbours and friends participated on the publication by sharing and writing their recipes with iron and vinegar mordant, the pages were dyed with natural colours obtained from the left-overs of some ferments like pomegranate and onion skin and other local plants like “estevas”. To make and warm up the dyes the braziers “ three mud fires” were used, also made during the SEEDS residency in Oficinas do Convento. You can see more of this process here.

The cover is a patchwork of each one of the ingredients that different neighbours added to the fermentation jar of Alicia Monreal.

The book was shown in the final exhibition of the project SEEDS in the Fine Arts Faculty of Lisbon, as part of the installation “Ecosystem of collective memories” in collaboration with Inês Coelho da Silva and Alicia Monreal, surrounded by ferments, nettle bread, wild plants recipes and homemade drinks made by the three artists.

The publication will continue to grow over the years by adding new recipes, if you are experimenting with ferments and you want to share one recipe with me, you can send it and i will add it to the book, so eventually one day i will be old and have a huge collective fermentation recipe book to share with others, to keep the casual witch vibes alive.

The exhibition was curated by Noemi Ferreira and João Rolaça.
